Railblaza Pro Series camera booms
Anyone following my ramblings over the past few years has probably witnessed my numerous experiments on kayak camera mounting methods, noting that the experiments pretty much drew to a close when I started using the Railblaza 150 Platform Boom & 600mm camera boom. I demonstrated these booms and the methods of which I mounted them in the ’Bird of Prey’ video I recently shared.
Not only do they provide the respective heights I was looking for to achieve the most optimal shooting perspectives from front, side and rear, they were also the most solid solutions I could find. This has always been important to me because the more rigid the mount, the less camera wobble would occur and thus better footage would result. In short, these booms have worked out so well that I simply haven’t had cause to look any further… until Railblaza themselves drew my attention to their new Pro series camera booms.
Much like their original booms the new ones utilize the StarPort mounting system and the lengths have not changed. What has changed is that they are now a little lighter and now feature an extra (5th) axis from which to pivot the mount platform. On top of this the mounting platforms are now detachable, meaning cameras can easily be removed and switched to different booms or telepoles. This video demonstrates their functionality beautifully:
So while they retain the qualities that I liked so much in the original booms the new Pro series add versatility that a guy like myself just cannot ignore. I’ll be showing the results of these new booms from our upcoming trip to Fraser Island. My older booms are too good to shove away to collect dust, however, so these have been donated to Carl who will put them to good use on the very same trip.
